Today on the blog I wanted to share something super fun! I have been having many movie nights with just myself as well as with my boyfriend! Since we can’t go to actual theaters, this has been a really different way to have an at home date night. In this post I’m going to share my At Home Movie Night Essentials that will allow you to create the perfect evening! I’ve partnered with Dollar General for this post, but all opinions are my own!
I’m going to include everything from what movies you need to watch, what snacks to purchase, and drinks I love when I have a stay at home movie night! I wanted to also add that all of these items came from Dollar General and in total I spent maybe $20 for all of these goodies! It’s literally cheaper than it would be to go see a movie and get JUST one popcorn at the theatre.
At Home Movie Night Essentials
What Do You Need for a Movie Night
To start out this post, I wanted to give a little checklist of sorts for things that you NEED for the perfect movie night! I personally don’t think you can improperly have a movie night and the types of candy/snacks you choose is up to you. These are just a few things I make sure to have when I want to have a relaxing evening in front of the television!
- DVD Player
- Cozy Blankets
- A Projector Screen
- A Food Tray
- Popcorn
- Coca-Cola (in a glass – glass coca cola is elite)
- Trolli Gummy Worms (I love me some sour gummy worms)
- Variety Pack of Chips
- Sour Cream and Onion Ruffles
- Cheddar and Sour Cream Chips
- Cheetos
- Buncha Crunch Box
- Reese’s Pieces
- Sour Patch Kids
How to Create the Perfect Movie Night Snack Tray
I knew when I was setting this movie night up that I wanted to create a cute little snack spread! The first thing I was hoping to find was a serving tray and I was so excited to find this wooden serving tray with handles. It has a fun little rustic feel to it and I love that it can work in any space! The first thing I chose to add to this tray were these glass Coca Cola bottles. Coke in glass bottles somehow tastes sooo much better!
When it came to snacks, I chose some of my favorites that I eat at the actual movie theatre! I usually grab something sweet and something sour. For this spread, that meant I chose Reese’s Pieces, Bunch Crunch Bites, and Trolli Gummy Worms! These proved to be the perfect additions to my tray and I ended up finding the perfect little bowls for them as well!
For the more salty aspects of this tray, you cannot go wrong with chips and popcorn! My favorite type of popcorn is microwave kettle corn. The mix of sweet and salt is a flavorful combo that I will always be obsessed with! It’s also just a little bit healthier than butter loaded popcorn (although that’s sometimes what I crave). I also love having the option of chips! For this platter I added Ruffles Cheddar and Sour Cream Chips as well as Sour Cream and Onion Chips.
Movie Ideas for Movie Night
So another important aspect of a movie night is the actual movie you’re going to choose to watch! I have had two Marvel movie marathons over the past three months or so and I have not regretted it. I also didn’t have access to Spiderman Homecoming, so I was super excited to find it for only $10 at Dollar General! They had the Spiderman Homecoming DVD (and a bunch of other titles), a DVD player, and a projector (if you wanted to get fancy).
I also wanted to give some ideas for other movies to watch during your movie night! I’m going to list my favorite titles, some movies that other people love, and some classics. I have favorite movies in a variety of genres, so that’s what I really want to focus in on! These movies can be found at Dollar General and/or on a variety of streaming services.
Rom-Coms: Clueless, 10 Things I Hate About You, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Maid in Manhattan, Leap Year, Crazy Rich Asians, Someone Great, Falling Inn Love, Little Italy, To All The Boys I Loved Before, Warm Bodies, The Proposal, Always Be My Maybe, She’s All That, Sleepless in Seattle, While You Were Sleeping, 27 Dresses, You’ve Got Mail, Say Anything.
Comedy: Jumanji The Next Level, Murder Mystery, Knives Out, Scary Movie, Pitch Perfect, Big, Zoolander, 21 Jump Street, Legally Blonde, Napoleon Dynamite, Friday, Mean Girls, Pulp Fiction, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Hustle, Baywatch (New), Guardians of the Galaxy.
Action: Marvel Universe Movies, Star Wars Series, Jurassic Park Series, Indiana Jones Series, Hancock, Charlie’s Angels, Bad Boys, Extraction, 6 Underground, Birds of Prey, Gemini Man, Godzilla King of Monsters, Men in Black, Wonder Woman, John Wick, Suicide Squad, The Incredibles, Zootopia, Catch Me If You Can, Speed, Independence Day, Kill Bill.
Make Sure the Movie Night Setup is Perfect
The last thing to do to make sure your movie night is perfect is by having the perfect setup! If you’re having a movie night at home alone, move your living room table out of the way (if you can) and lay on the floor with cozy blankets and comfy pillows! This is honestly my favorite thing to do because I love being cozy. It’ll also help you to relax and unwind after a long week!
I also think it would be fun to keep the table there as I did in the photo below and just sit against the couch. That way you can use the table in order to keep you snacks all together and make sure you don’t spill them everywhere (like I somehow do every time I eat). I loved setting this up with the popcorn closer to you, and all other candy and snacks around it. They all have separate little containers so you can easily share with others!
I hope you guys enjoyed this post! This is my post on At Home Movie Night Essentials that will allow you to have the best stay at home date night. If you’re bored at home on a Friday night, then this post will hopefully help you create some fun! I know I personally love watching a movie at home on the weekends, so if you do as well then utilize all these tips.
