Hello y’all! This post is one that I’ve wanted to write for soooo long now. Growing up a mixed girl with a Caucasian mother, hair care was something that was a huge unknown to me. I’m not saying she didn’t try, because she really did, but mixed hair products didn’t really exist in the late 90’s!
Only once I got to college is when I FINALLY found products that worked well with my natural hair! This was after having a life crisis my sophomore year and needing to figure out how to style short, curly hair that didn’t involve heat. I’d basically fried out my curl pattern from my straightener and $2.00 shampoo bottles at that point.
I’ve seen a TON of posts about how to care for hair, and I feel like there are plenty of those already! I decided to reach out to some other curly girls in an Instagram group I’m in. I really wanted to see how they style their curls and showcase their tips and tricks too!
Below you’ll find four millennial curly girls who have styled their hair in unique ways! They are Ayzia, Julissa, Aleja, and of course me! I’ve really been trying to mix in more fun hair styles to my own life, and I know they have too! I hope you enjoy this post and keep reading for some more inspo.

I didn’t have a good relationship with my hair until college. Even the I struggled! I had nearly burned all my hair off after 8th grade straightening it while wet (why was that a trend???). It took me until my Sophomore year of college to really start loving my curls! I cut off all my hair and needed to find products that worked for me.
Being mixed, they don’t have a huge selection of products for multi-textured hair (that’s also affordable). I found THE best products for me (I have a post about it linked (here)) and have been working to rejuvenate my curls ever since. Once I found the products, I wanted to start styling in various ways too!
For this post I wanted to showcase how women with curls can also wear the adorable pearl clip trend too! I think this look is more refined than others and the clips (that are UNDER $9) really help to complete it! You can get my clips (here).
Julissa // @junikdesigner
I’m JuJu and currently going thru a transformation. I have big curly dyed blonde curls! You can spot them in music videos and TV. My blonde was being over processed and caused my curls to weaken and my hair to fall out. The date of 12/8/18 marked a new beginning.
My hair has grown so fast since then and figuring out how to rock my curls had been a little challenging. Below is how I style my hair daily. I Mo-hawk it out! By using 3 bobby pins on each side and using products like Rizo defining cream (leave in conditioner) and Ouidad Whipped curls, ithas truly helped with the styling part. The fun part is trying to figure out what outfit I can wear with this edgy look?!
Ayzia // @Ayzia_
Styling my curly hair is a constant journey! I’m always learning new tricks and trying new things to see what works best for me. Right now I am obsessed with Deva Curl…especially the Deva Curl towel. I never realized it, but my regular towel was causing frizz…who knew.
I recently got a curly hair cut and dyed my hair back to natural so it’s the healthiest it’s been in a long time. I’m trying to embrace my curls and keep it healthy by styling it without heat. To keep my styles cute and fun I’m trying a lot of different accessories like head wraps, head bands, scrunchies, and hair clips!
I especially love these rhinestone Bobby pins because they ad a little glam to my hairstyle (I can sometimes feel that my curly hair looks super casual). It’s a great way to dress my look up for a day or night out!
Aleja // @alittlealeja
When I transitioned to curly hair I wanted to make sure I had some easy go-to hairstyles. The Half puff is one of my favorites it’s like the Puff but a little more “dressed up” than a ponytail! I love the look of this because it’s so fun and can be dressed up or down!
Remember no matter what anyone tells you curly hair can and IS elegant and beautiful. In these photos this is my day 3 hair, it is styled with the Cantu Curl defining cream and the Not your Mothers brand Curl Talk Gel which is great for heat and humidity!
If you’re thinking of transitioning and are worried about the time it’ll take don’t worry, It really is so worth it! Own your beautiful fun self and be confident, your confidence will grow as you embrace your true self!

I hope my other curly girls enjoyed this post! I love that I was able to round up a few other influencers who have curls that style their hair in fun ways! I have linked directly to the Instagram accounts of these other girls so you can consistently get more hair inspo.
Pinterest is most definitely one of the places I go often to find inspiration for curly, shirt hair. I suggest checking out the app for even more styles! They also have a new filter that lets you filter by skin tone which is FREAKING AMAZING and insanely innovative. This has definitely helped me out and I know it can help you too.
