Okay so you’re probably like “okay who is this man??” because if you’re anything like me, you’re massively nosy. I have actually had people tell me that they stalked me to find out, so now HERE IS ALL THE INFO YOU WANTED! In this post I’m going to tell y’all how I met Jasim, and also How to Take Cute Couple Pictures!
A local photographer posted in one of my Atlanta based Facebook groups that she was looking for couples to shoot with. I was like the 30th comment, but we got picked! Someone messaged me and asked how I got Jasim on board to do this and I literally just told him that I booked it and hoped he didn’t hate me LOL.
I was so excited though because they all turned out SO BEAUTIFULLY! I hadn’t ever done a couples shoot before, but I shoot almost every weekend with a photographer so it was pretty easy for me to know what small movements would make the photos pop more. Keep reading to find out all my tips + to read about how Jasim and I met!
(P.S. It’s pronounced “awesome with a J” – Jawesome (Jasim))

How Jasim & I Met
If you’ve been following me for a while, then you know I was dating someone else at the start of the year. I ended that relationship for many reasons, but I don’t feel the need to explain that to my internet community haha. That said, I wish no ill will on him! He is still a nice person, it just didn’t work for us. Now that this is out of the way, here is how I met Jasim!
One of my best guy friends transferred to the University of Georgia my sophomore year of college, and there was one weekend where he came down to visit! He ended up bringing Jasim along, and that’s the first time I met him (about 4 years ago). I was dating someone else at the time, so obviously nothing happened between us! Hilariously enough, we both ended 3+ year long relationships in the past year or so and I really thought to myself “oh is this fate orrrrr.”
As I was browsing the horrible dating profiles men seem to create on Hinge (my friends and I send them to each other LOL), I saw his profile pop up and was like “OMG HI! Do you remember me?” Well, he did not remember me ladies and gents. He did text the mutual friend we have and ask about me though and THEN he remembered who I was. I really went into it thinking it would be fun to catch up, but then we went on our first date and I was like, “well crap I like this guy.”
We met up at a brewery (outside, socially distanced) and talked for maybe two hours straight before he had to leave. Frankly, I was baffled at how seamless the conversation was and I really just wanted to keep talking to him more! Before we left we set up a second date and the rest is history. He’s my favorite person to talk to every day and I get giddy when I see him! Now onto what you came here for….
How to Take Cute Couple Photos
1. Research Poses Before You Shoot!
Before we even went to take photos, I made sure to hop on Pinterest and see what poses other couples did for their shoots! It’s a great idea to do so because you can see what style they did theirs in, if you like it, and what poses you know you want to avoid.
I personally think close up photos are super cute! I knew I wanted to get some that were closer so you could see the details of our outfits. It also feels more intimate which is what you want when doing a couples shoot! The one below was similar to one I had seen on Pinterest:
2. Plan Your Outfits!
I personally hate seasonally specific family/couple photos. I think wearing something that could work virtually year round is a way that you can make the photos flow with any decor year round! I love this pink tiered dress from Amazon and even wore it to my cousin’s wedding last October! I also love a nude heel and these from JCPenny are perfection.
Jasim and I had actually gone outlet shopping the morning before this shoot (lol @ us), and he ended up finding this dress shirt for like $12! It was the perfect complement to my dress and I think the lighter colors played well with each other. My biggest tip if you’re looking into photoshoot outfits for couples, is to try and make sure the color stories match!
If you want a more demure setting, maybe both try to work black into the photos. If you want a lighter feel to your photos, be sure to try and opt for more pastel shades! I am always a fan of denim jeans with the couple each wearing a unique top.
3. RELAX!
I am used to being in front of a camera. It’s honestly no big deal to me at this point! Jasim was very nervous though and I forgot that most people are not used to this. Just pretend like you’re hanging out! Act like you would if you were at home, making food together. Try to pretend like there’s not even a camera pointing at you and you will be golden!
It’s also helpful if you talk to the photographer a little bit first. Ask them how they got started, ask them about their family, etc. The more comfortable you are, the easier it will become! I started shooting with my regular photographer, Hannah, in Feb and now we are also friends.
4. Try Something Unique!
Our photographer for this shoot thought some over the shoulder photos would be super cute and she was very right. The two that I have in this post are a couple of my fav shots overall! Be sure to try anything your photographer asks (within reason), and then offer some ideas you might have too!
She also suggested this super cute little shoe pose and I feel like it reminds me of something from an Audrey Hepburn movie. Try to get all the angles because you’ll never know what poses you’ll end up liking best. It’s better to try it all and end up not liking something than not having tried anything!
5. Have Fun!
Jasim was nervous going into this, but afterwards he said he ended up having fun! Once you get into a rhythm, it becomes less daunting and more fun. There was even a point at which our photographer was like “pretend like you’re at a bar hitting on her” and I died laughing.
Photos can be so fun (even in heels that keep sliding off your feet) especially when they’re with your favorite person. If you’re worried about posing correctly. Practice together in the mirror first! You’ll probably end up looking crazy which will make you guys laugh and put you in the best mood to shoot.
A Final PSA: DO NOT BUG YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER FOR PHOTOS AFTER YOU SHOOT! They are busy, editing different lighting/different locations takes A LOT of work, and they have other clients (and lives in general) too!
