Santorini Dress – Flying Dress Photoshoot Recap
I wanted to walk through the process I used to book my Santorini flying dress photoshoot, and talk about the things I feel like went well/the things I would’ve done differently! Overall this was an amazing, once in a lifetime experience that I would 1000% do again if given the opportunity!
Booking my Flying Dress Photoshoot
As soon as I booked my cruise, this was the FIRST thing I looked into. I have had a photoshoot like this on my bucket list for so long and knew this would be the perfect opportunity to check this off my list. The company actually offers shoots in 5 locations (Santorini, Italy, Dubai, Mexico, and the Maldives), so make sure to navigate to the Santorini portion of the site.
Choosing the Location
They offer 12 locations for Santorini shoots, but mine was in Imerovigli. I originally wanted this shoot to be in Oia, but I didn’t specify what location which was my fault. Be sure to look through the locations and decide which you prefer before booking! Then confirm with the team which location you want to shoot at.
I ended up being VERY upset that my shoot wasn’t in Oia like I’d wanted (we’d taken a taxi all the way there only to realize we had to take one back to Imerovigli), but I regret this immensely because I ended up so in love with the photos (plus my photographer, Tony, was fab). I honestly am GLAD I ended up shooting in Imerovigli because it was MUCH less crowded and you still got a great blue dome/Oia feel.
Choosing the Package
To start, Santorini Dress offers 4 packages: individual photoshoots, group photoshoots, SantoriniDress Explore photoshoots, and proposal photoshoots. I chose the individual photoshoot option! As an influencer with curly hair who barely wears makeup, I knew I only really needed the Casual photoshoot package.
This included: A 1-hour photoshoot, all photos with lite color correction in preview quality, 6 retouched photos of my choice, and 25 photos color corrected. This package cost 450€ in total (Which, I will let you know, is affordable for a shoot. Especially one of this caliber.) and then I opted for renting a dress which was 90€!
The dress rental isn’t included in this package, but I knew I did NOT have space in my luggage for a dress (especially one of this size). They brought it to the location for me, had it steamed, and also had it ready to go for me to change! They work with local businesses to use their basements/bathrooms for clients to change in.
For full transparency, the total photoshoot cost was 540€!
Confirming Photoshoot Details
Once you complete the online application, the company will email you confirming certain details. They’ll ask you for the time of day you’re looking to shoot which will depend how you are getting to the city you’re shooting in. It was about 30-35 minutes from the port for us, but if you’re staying in Santorini already, it’ll likely be less!
They’ll then ask if you need an assistant to make the dress fly, which I declined because my boyfriend would be there with me, but ended up having an assistant anyway! The last item they confirm is the style of dress you have chosen (if you decide to rent one like I did).
After everything is confirmed, you need to sign a contract with them and then make a 25-50% deposit online by card. This will guarantee your date’s reservation for you and the photographer! They allow location, time, place, dress and transfer changes up until 24-hours before the shoot which is great in case you end up having any travel issues!
Day Of Information
4 days before my shoot, they emailed me to confirm all the details! This included: The name and WhatsApp number of my photographer, day of timing, the location of where I should meet my photographer, the balance I still owed, and an image of where I should meet my photographer!
Once you meet up with your photographer, they take you to a location to change into your flying dress! You’ll likely shoot at 4-5 locations if you book the 1-hour session which ends of being PLENTY of images to choose from. My shoot started at 10am and my photographer said this was the best time in the morning to shoot because the stairs/roofs can get really slippery from dew any earlier.
Flying Dress Photoshoot FAQ’s
If you are planning to book a photoshoot in Santorini, Greece then I HIGHLY recommend booking with Santorini Dress. In this section of my post, I’m going to share all the questions you might be asking while deciding if this is the best option for you!
How Do I Book a Flying Dress Photoshoot?
The most important thing to know when booking a flying dress photoshoot is how to even do that! On the Santorini Dress site, you can send in a request form with your info, the date/time of your shoot, and any special requests. After this, they will reach out to you and confirm any additional details!
Which Package Should I Choose?
I had a lot of people on my Instagram asking about the Santorini flying dress photoshoot price, so in this section I am going to lay out the package options they have! You can see these all on their site, but I wanted to mention them here and share how I decided which to go with.
How Do I know Where to Meet My Photographer?
The company will send you an email a few days before your shoot with all relevant information you’ll need including where to meet your photographer! They are so great with this and literally sent along an image of the restaurant we would meet next to plus an arrow drawn as to where we’d meet them.
How Do I Communicate With my Photographer Day Of?
I communicated with my photographer through WhatsApp! I would say it’s a smart idea to download this app anyway when traveling abroad because if you end up booking any cars/taxis beforehand, a lot of them use WhatsApp to get into contact with you! It’s super easy to use and free to sign up.
Where Do I Buy a Flowy Dress for My Flying Dress Photoshoot?
If you plan to not rent a dress through Santorini Dress (which I very much recommend), then Etsy is thee way to go! I tried to find some to link for my Instagram followers when sharing photos from my shoot, and Etsy was the one place I found dresses that were TRULY flowy in the way that you need them to be.
I personally recommend renting a dress from Santorini Dress over buying one for a few reasons. The first is that to purchase a dress it will cost you between $150 and $200. To rent one, the cost starts at only €90! Out of all the benefits though, it’s best to rent because the company will BRING YOU the dress steamed and ready to go. Plus you’ll be saving a LOT of suitcase space!
I chose to rent as well because I was thinking about the fact that I will likely never use this dress again in the future and there would be no point spending that kind of money to have the garment sit in my closet collecting dust. This all said, if you still want to buy a dress, I am going to link some of my favorites below!
What Dress Style Should I Choose for my Santorini Dress Photoshoot?
For any flowy dress photoshoot, you want to make sure you’re getting that maximum movement! The Santorini Dress site offers dresses from 90€ to 250€ and you can choose based on your taste and package! The dress I chose was No.23 and I knew I wanted to do yellow. It contrasts perfectly with the white buildings, blue domes, and gorgeous turquoise ocean! PLUS it pops along with the magenta Bougainville trees.
What Shoes Should I Wear?
Bestie, I urge you to wear comfortable, FLAT sandals. Shoes that you can get on and off very easily and that you can climb stairs/rooftops with. You’ll be shooting barefoot so you do not want to be uncomfortable and in pain walking around to all of your locations.
How and Where Do I Pay?
You will pay in two installments. The first payment is due within a few days of signing the contract. It’s a 25-50% deposit that you pay online by card. This books the photoshoot for both you AND the photographer! My deposit ended up being 240€ and then I paid the remaining 300€ to my photographer when we met up on the day of the shoot. This is a cash payment, so make sure you come with Euros in hand!
What is the Timeline for Getting Images Back?
I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly they get images back! It took about 2 weeks for me to get them all back, and since our Santorini stop was during the first week of my cruise, I got them back a week after I returned home! It was a perfect timeline. Their timeline info on this is listed below:
Step 1: You receive all photo previews with light color correction within 14 days after the shooting.
Step 2: Choose the most liked photos for artistic retouching and color correction >> send us their names.
Step 3: Receive ready photos in the original resolution by the Dropbox link.
How Many Photos Will They Edit for Me?
This completely depends on the package you purchase! All photos get light color correction regardless, and I felt like I didn’t really need any other retouching done. If you want to save some money, buy the more affordable package and use the TouchRetouch app ($1.99 on the app store) to edit any small things yourself at home!
WHEW, I think I told you everything I possibly could about my Santorini Flying Dress Photoshoot Recap & FAQ’s. I had so much fun doing this shoot and honestly have never felt more confident in my life. Random people will take photos of you and hype you up along the way and it’s honestly a huge mood booster.
If you are traveling to Santorini (or Italy, Dubai, Mexico, and the Maldives), then I could not recommend booking a photoshoot more. It is photos you will have for a LIFETIME!
