The inspiration from this post came from the lovely Anika Mumford who I graduated to high school with! When I asked for blog post requests, she specifically said she wanted date ideas that didn’t only involve bars/food. This is something I COMPLETELY understand.
I am not a consumer of alcohol (even though I’m 23). It’s just not something I care for! If you’re the same way can we please be bffs (jk lol)?? I totally understand where she’s coming from though because bars/food are all companies market to couples for Valentine’s Day!
I’m kind of unconventional for most things (I want a pink wedding dress). That is why I totally knew this was a post I had to do! Without further ado, here is my post on 16 fun and Unconventional Date Ideas!
16 Fun and Unconventional Date Ideas
1. Go Hiking
Now, these aren’t all going to be outdoorsy type options! I just know that for some people they love the outdoors and spending time outside. Hiking is a fun way to get outside and see the world around you with the one you love! Just be sure to bring the bug spray (unless it’s the winter, then double up on socks).
2. Take a Baking or Cooking Class
Cooking isn’t for everyone, but I know for a fact my boyfriend qould LOVE to take a cooking class with me! He loves trying out new things in the kitchen. that being said, I love to bake! We might compromise and find something that maybe does a few courses. This is a great date idea and you can maybe even throw in some aphrodisiacs!
3. Go Thrift Shopping
This is another favorite past time of mine. My boyfriend and I both LOVE to find vintage pieces for our wardrobes. This is a great way to bond and get excited over discovering unique finds! Head over to your local ministry consignment shops, or check out a Salvation Army/Goodwill!
4. Ride Bikes in the Park
Okay yes I already have another outdoorsy one. It’ll be okay though! Going for a bike ride in the park is definitely a unique date idea. It could be potentially problematic though because it could be hard to talk. Spice up the bike ride by bringing food with you to have a picnic! Now you have two dates in one and will have burned off all those calories.
5. Take a Brewery/Winery Tour
This is something I’ve personally been wanting to do for awhile. Yes, this does include wine/alcohol. HOWEVER, this is like a sophisticated version of alcohol and not a bar. This is a fun little excursion and you can have fun getting to know each other better on the ride there!
6. Go on a Ghost Tour
I honestly thought of this as a date idea because I lived so close to Savannah, GA when I was in school! Savannah is supposedly one of the most haunted places and they have multiple ghost tours. I know there are a bunch of other places who do the same! Find a spooky place to tour and have the most haunted date of your life. *insert ghost BOO*
7. Make a Time Capsule
This option is definitely a bit random. Don’t think time capsule like the ones that are buried deep down in the ground. Think of this more as a memento box that you guys can go look back on in a few years! List some of the things you like/love about your partner and maybe some items that are important from the past year.
8. Visit an Art Gallery
Art galleries are great for artistic people and those who are not. If you’re artistically inclined, you can appreciate the art for what it is! If you’re not a creative, it’s still amazing to go view pivotal art pieces and designs from the past. Personally, if you’re in New York, you HAVE to go to The Met. The heavenly bodies exhibit rocked my world.
9. Find a Pottery Class
Pottery is something I’ve loved since I was a kid! For some reason I’ve always been a “play in the mud” type of gal if you can believe it. This is a fun way to relax and get your hands dirty with your partner! It’s also a time where you’re basically forced to put your phones down (which is what you should do on a date anyway).
10. Go to an Arcade
If you’re basically just a grown up child, aka me, then an arcade is the place for you! Whether it’s a place with vintage games or a place like Dave & Buster’s, you’re sure to have a great time! Compete with your partner or cheer them on while you race someone else. Find out where there’s a Dave & Buster’s near you (here)!
11. Take a Ballroom or Salsa Dance Class
Now I was forced to take ballroom dance classes in Middle School. It’s a southern thing and was called “social” and you learned all the old ballroom dances! We legit would go from “The Twist” to a Waltz. This would definitely NOT be like that. Ballroom or Salsa dance classes could be a fun way to get close to your love and exercise while you do it!
12. Go Bowling
This is actually what my boyfriend and I did on our first Valentine’s Day together. We started dating only about a week and a half prior, so we wanted it to be fun! My school town was aggressively small so we had ONE place with bowling, laser tag, and an arcade. It was actually such a great time! Our lane kept messing up so we got free tickets to come again too.
13. Have a Movie Marathon
I am a huge fan of movies. It usually doesn’t even matter the genre (unless it horror) to me personally! This is a cute way to stay in and enjoy the company of your significant other! Personally, I’m always down for a Harry Potter movie marathon (and Freeform generally is too). Look up some fun and magical recipes on Pinterest and have a great time!
14. Take a Wine/Painting Class
Another alcohol based idea, but this one is fun and utilizes more than just your liver! Wine and painting classes are another thing I’ve always wanted to do. You get a lil’ tipsy and can create something really great! Or, personally, something sub-par that you’ll hate. It’ll be okay though because of the wine! It’s a perfect combination.
15. Tour a Botanical Garden
My boyfriend and I were going to tour the botanical garden in Atlanta that has a Moana-esque floral motif, but sadly it was supposed to rain. We ended up rescheduling and going to a Hawks game (so it was still fun)! Either way, botanical gardens are so gorgeous and romantic. They’re such a good option for a date night! In the south, these are definitely a “winter” thing because in the summer they’ll be way too hot.
16. Have a Game Night for Two
This idea is not for the extremely competitive (also me, this is basically a post calling myself out). Games can honestly make or break a date night so if you’re a lighthearted couple, this is for you! I also just have a really awesome bf who’s nice to me when I’m upset about losing.
I hope y’all liked this post and that you now have some new date night ideas! These are awesome regardless of whether it’s a 1st date or a 500th date. Treat your love to something special and unique and I’m sure they’ll be SO grateful!
