Today on the blog I wanted to share the perfect Thanksgiving sweater dress under $50! There are a little over 20 days till thanksgiving and I really wanted to share a look that can capture a mixture of cozy and sophisticated. I was able to achieve this when I found this gorgeous dress I’ll share more about today!
Amazon has an amazing selection of Thanksgiving apparel that is chic and affordable! They have a wide selection of ladies holiday dresses that can work for whatever holiday you’re shopping for whether it be Thanksgiving or Christmas. In the case of this post, I wanted to focus on Thanksgiving since it’s coming up first!
I have always been that person who loves to dress up for holidays. It makes me feel more put together and excited to take photos with my family members! Even if you aren’t really into dressing up for thanksgiving, this dress is so comfortable that you’ll forget you did! Plus: IT HAS POCKETS!
How to Find Cheap Thanksgiving Outfits
Now that I work at a kids clothing company, I’ve realized that they just don’t make very many thanksgiving clothes for adults! Kids get these cute little bodysuits with turkeys on them and we’re left to try and find something that’s elevated, yet comfortable. At least that’s what I’m looking for!
I started my search for the perfect outfit by looking into Thanksgiving sweaters for women! I love a good sweater and generally try to go with a sweater and leggings for Thanksgiving (for obvious reasons). I honestly found a bunch of different options, but nothing really stood out to me the way this dress did! I decided to link a few below for y’all to shop anyway if that fits your style more:
My family is that family who always eats super early on holidays. That’s why I wanted outfits for thanksgiving day! We generally spend time with family until 5-6pm and then sometimes we go Black Friday shopping that night. I TRY not to give into things like that, but it’s honestly a fun way to spend time with family!
The way I find cheap thanksgiving outfits like this one, is generally by heading to Target or Amazon first! Target I love because they have more reliable quality for their garments and Amazon I look to for price. Both are awesome options, but Amazon also has free 2-day shipping with Prime! No matter what you decide, I would look these two places first.
The Perfect Thanksgiving Sweater Dress Under $50
I finally came across my perfect dress and was so happy I found it! It looks almost tan online, but I was thrilled when it arrived and was this gorgeous muted orange color. I think it makes it that much better for the fall time! It reminds me of pumpkin pie which for Thanksgiving is the perfect color choice.
My favorite features of this Thanksgiving dress are the sleeves and the pockets! The sleeves are looser closer to your arms which I personally like. It makes it easier to move around in and also doesn’t stick to your body! The end of the sleeves are more fitted which makes them easier to cuff if you have shorter arms.
The pockets are also what makes this outfit a winner! As a girl, there’s nothing worse than never having pockets in any of the clothes you wear. I actually had no clue this dress had pockets until I put it on and I was so excited that it did! I’m able to put my phone in them without it weighing down too hard as well which is great.
How To Accessorize a Sweater Dress
I decided to accessorize my sweater dress with a few key items! This panama hat is from Amazon and I chose it because it had a wide black band around it! I think hats with a band just look a little bit more elevated even if you did get one for less than $30. I think the tan meshes well with the orange of the dress!
When I was looking for Thanksgiving day outfit ideas, I knew I wanted over the knee boots to be featured in whatever I wore! These taupe over the knee boots are from Steve Madden and were some that I bought about two years ago. They’re amazing quality and have lasted this long!
My bag is another Amazon find and I have had it for around a year now! I love it specifically because it matches these boots and helps to coordinate looks that might not have any colors that tie in together. That’s a tip I always work by! Making sure that at least two colors tie back together!
Tip – Make sure two colors tie back to each other in a look!

3 Additional Thanksgiving Outfit Ideas
I wanted to also give you a few other cute thanksgiving day outfit ideas in this post too! That way if the first dress isn’t necessarily your taste, you can still have some fun other looks to get style inspo from. All of my looks include some type of boot (because they’re perfect for the fall)!
If you know me you know I’m not into basic clothes like that. These won’t be thanksgiving casual outfits in a main sense of the word, but they’re casual in the way that they’re comfortable, easy to put on, and won’t make you feel gross when you’re eating all the Thanksgiving food!
Beige Sweater + Plaid Peplum Skirt
The first look is this perfect fall outfit with a knit sweater and a plaid peplum mini skirt! My sweater has a subtle bell sleeve and is from Lulus. I love it because it’s just a simple sweater and isn’t too heavy! My skirt is from J.Crew and I got it on mega-sale last year. It’s also a Thanksgiving day piece because it has POCKETS! How perfect is that right? It also is lined so it’s not too itchy.
You’ll see that I’m also wearing my taupe over the knee boots with this look, so that’s how you know they’re a winner! I also am wearing a similar hat to the one in the first photo that I also ended up finding on Amazon. This one came with a leather band around it (that I conveniently lost between all of my moving this past year), but I still use it regardless! I also have that same taupe handbag from Amazon in this look too. You can see how perfect it is!
Green Cape + Faux Leather Leggings
I posted this look on my Instagram a few weeks ago and you all LOVED it! Chicwish sent me this cape as a gift (c/o) and I haven’t wanted to take it off. It is amazing quality, cozy (great for anyone who gets cold easily or for when it’s really cold out), and SO SOFT! The buttons are an added detail that I absolutely can’t get enough of. Being a previous fashion major, I’m always looking for pieces with added flair!
For the rest of my look, I decided to add a white mock neck sweater and faux leather leggings! The mock neck sweater is one that I got from ASOS and honestly think it’s the perfect layering piece. My faux leather leggings are from Target and I found them last year for just $15! They’re such a steal and so great for so many looks. I also pulled out some more over the knee boots, but these are a deep rust and from Goodnight Macaroon!
Floral Dress + Tan Backless Booties
The last look in my list of thanksgiving dress up ideas is this floral dress! It’s a midi dress that I found at Target that buttons all the way down! I love it because it fits really well and it isn’t too thick either. That’s great for anyone living in the south for Thanksgiving because it’ll likely be super hot here! You’ll see I’m wearing my classic tan panama hat in this look again and it’s really because it works so well with so many looks.
To accessorize this look further, I also added this burnt orange bag from Target! It’s not as prominent in person as it looks here, but I love how it matches back to the orange flower stems in my dress. I also threw on this pair of tan booties from American Eagle! I found them in Times Square while living in New York last summer and have never loved a pair of boots more.
If you were searching the internet for thanksgiving day outfits or thanksgiving dress ideas, you need to look no further! I found this chic sweater dress and was so happy with how it fit and I know you’ll feel the same way. The best part is that if you’re a gal who says “I only buy dresses with pockets,” this works for you too!
