Hi everyone! Today on the blog I wanted to share something that made the end of 2019 the best ever…I BOUGHT A NEW CAR! My first car was very much on her last legs (RIP Stella) and I knew this was something I needed to do before she officially died. In this post, I wanted to share Why I Chose a 2020 Toyota Corolla for My New Car and what I love about it!

My customer brand loyalty for Toyota is super high. My mom has had some version of a Toyota RAV-4 as a car for as long as I can remember! She’s always loved how long these cars last, how affordable upkeep is, all of the unique features Toyota offers, and so much more. That’s why when I started looking for a new car, I knew I wanted it to be a Toyota!
What I Was Looking For In a New Car
Honestly when I first went to the dealership, I intended to buy a used car. I make a pretty decent living as a 20 something, but I didn’t want to spend too much. I was initially looking for a new-ish used car that would do well with me living in a city, had low mileage, and still had a good amount of bells and whistles! That all changed when I test drove the car that I have right now.
The first difference I felt was how smoothly the Corolla drove! Even though it was a small car, it drove like it was a much larger car. I also was worried that I would feel like I was really close to the ground and not ONCE have I felt that way. Corolla’s honestly ride like they are a much bigger car, but are still compact and perfect for living in a city (like I do)!
I was switching from an SUV to a car so one thing I wanted to make sure my new car had was SPACE! I had an incorrect idea that all small cars had no space, and I was very wrong. I have pretty long legs even though I’m 5’6″ and some other cars I test drove had almost zero leg room. Not only does my Corolla have that, but it has plenty of room in the back, as well as the trunk!
Another reason I decided to buy a new car versus a used car was that Toyota also has an amazing warranty. I get free car maintenance for two whole years! I knew this was an expense that would be added on top of anything I spent on a car so I factored this in and realized it was the best deal for me.
2020 Toyota Corolla – The Best Car for Millennials
Okay let’s be clear, I’m very biased because I love my car. I also love that it still smells like a new car even 6 months after I bought it! This is one of the top cars for millennials for a few reasons. The first reason is that it comes with an AUX Cord and port! You’re probably like, “um duh,” but forreal my previous car was so old it didn’t have one. This little upgrade has made my life so amazing!
This said, it also has Toyota Apple CarPlay which is the feature I never knew I needed. Every time you plug in your phone, it pops up on the console screen and allows you to play your music/podcasts, use GPS (your choice of the app), and so much more! This is really such a game changer and I didn’t feel tech savvy enough to use it at first. The lady at the dealership helped walk me through it all though before I left the lot!
My life has also been saved by having a Backup Camera! I will be honest, I’m not the world’s best driver. I am ALWAYS safe and abide by the rules of the road, but parking had never been my strong suit! I’m always super paranoid about backing up and this has beens such a bonus. I still look over my shoulder when backing up, but I use my backup camera to align and also to make sure no one is behind!
Other Special Additions That I Love
Okay the special features above are so fantastic, but there are EVEN MORE amazing features with this car! Some of them are ones I didn’t even realize my car had at first. The first is that you’re literally able to sync up your car with the Alexa App and you can give your car commands. Like how cool is that?! You can do things like find a gas station, play music, and even find out the weather!
Another fun feature is that you can also connect to the Toyota Remote Connect App! I was honestly baffled at this because it can literally tell you such important info from the tap of your phone. I couldn’t believe that I could see my tire pressure, odometer, and fuel level from this app! This is really helpful too because it scares me trying to check my tire pressure myself.
The last added feature that makes me love this car is the JBL Speakers! There are NINE speakers in this tiny but mighty car. This has been awesome for me when I have taken a two hour trip to visit family a few times! I love listening to the Harry Potter series on audiobook and these speakers allow me to hear super clear sound even when the road gets bumpy.
Safety Features That Are Unmatched
I also felt like I needed to share some of the safety features because at first I thought I was driving a magical car. No, seriously. Lane Trace Assist had me calling my mom to tell her how cool it was. This feature will adjust your steering wheel for you if you begin to depart a lane! I could not even believe this was a real feature but I love it! It honestly helps you to just adjust and stay in the center of whatever lane you’re driving in.
Two other safety features I love while driving are the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and the Road Sign Assist! The cruise control is amazing because it allows you to set how much of a distance you wish to keep in-between you and the car in front of you! This is helpful on long drives. The road sign assist is the coolest part because there are some areas on I-20 where you can’t tell what the speed limit is! Now all you have to do is look down.
The last safety feature that was very important to me is Pre-collision System with Pedestrian Detection! Now I honestly don’t drive many places with tons of pedestrian traffic, but honestly this could be amazing for mall parking lots and heavily populated city areas. The way this feature has saved me once before is that a car in front of me braked really quickly and my car realized first and alerted me (with a beep)! This made me feel so much safer.
I still can’t believe that I bought my first car! It was a dream for so long but has made my life so much better and less stressful. If the 2020 Toyota Corolla isn’t one of the most popular cars for millennials, it needs to be! It has literally everything you could need in a car and more. I love all of the safety features that is offers as well as all of the unique electronic benefits!
