Hi friends! This past weekend I took a trip to Austin, TX with my boyfriend. We moved to Dallas, TX in January of 2022 and knew we wanted to make the most out of living so close to the other large cities in Texas. Our office gave us a half day this Friday, and we have off on Monday! Because of this, we decided that we’d spend the long weekend away. Keep reading for The Ultimate Guide to a Long Weekend in Austin, TX!
Friday:
We started our long weekend in Austin on Friday afternoon! For President’s Day we were given a half day, so it was the perfect start to the weekend. Since we arrived in the evening, we decided we would do dinner, and then go to a couple bars with some of my boyfriend’s friends! Location wise, our hotel was near “The Domain” which is a bit outside of Austin, but still a nice area to check out.
Dinner: Blue Sushi Sake Grill
This place has some DELISH sushi. I personally try to avoid raw sushi, so I love that their website is broken out by “Raw,” “Not Raw,” and “Vegan!” They also have a happy hour menu with drinks and food, so if you’re traveling and trying to save a little money, this is a great option! All drinks for happy hour are less than $10 and all food is under $15! highly recommend going here for some tapas.

Snack: The Yard Milkshake Bar
THE GOURMET ICE CREAM OF YOUR DREAMS. If you’ve ever wanted one of those Instagram-worthy shakes that makes all of followers jealous, then this is the one for you. I love having something sweet to eat after dinner, so this is the perfect option! The milkshake featured in the post below is called “The Mermaid” – it’s a birthday cake shake topped with rock candy and a chocolate mermaid fin!

Drinks: WonderBar
After dinner we went to WonderBar and it was THE MOST FUN PLACE! It’s such a unique bar with so many fun walls/designs. Think of a 1970’s disco colored heaven with an Alice in Wonderland inspired flower room! I also loved the small features around the place. You can buy tokens at the bar ($10 each) and use them to spin the wheel on the back wall. You can win various prizes or drinks and they spray you with bubbles while you do it.

Saturday:
Breakfast: Vaquero Taquero
You can’t leave Austin, TX without having breakfast tacos! One of the best places to grab them is Vaquero Taquero. They have Nopales tacos (sautéed cactus) and it’s not a food most people would be used to having! You’ve got to try them.

Excursion: Uncommon Market
As a lover of antiques, I knew I wanted to stop by Uncommon Objects! It was one of THE BEST antique shops I have been to and I would 100% go back again. They had relics from a ton of different time periods, and a lot of the sections were color coordinated which I LOVED!

Lunch/Excursion: The Oasis
This was SUCH a fun afternoon! We went for lunch and then stayed to hang out for a few hours. There’s an area that juts out from the building that overlooks the trees and the lake, but also a bunch of other seating too! If you’re looking for other things at The Oasis, they also have some small boutiques, an ice cream shop, and a restaurant! There’s also food up at the top bar area which we liked.

Dinner: Honey Moon Spirit Lounge
This was my boyfriend and I’s favorite meal of the trip! It was sooo delicious and had the perfect portion sizes. We got the Duck Fat Fried Chicken, Parmigiano Truffle Frites, and the Omelet! They also have a plethora of cocktail options (that they’re known for) that you have to try.

Sunday:
On Sunday, I started the last day with a photoshoot! As a blogger, I always try to plan a shoot at some point throughout a trip. I also planned for us to then get breakfast at Revival Coffee (it’s an ADORABLE place with fun coffee and pastries) and then head over to South Congress.
Excursion: Mural Tour
On Sunday, I started the say doing a mural tour of Austin! I did a photoshoot with Erin of SewStratton! I had planned out which ones I wanted to go to, and then we started the day! Coincidentally, this was the same day that a marathon was happening which caused quite a few issues with travel. Luckily, you shouldn’t have to deal with that!

Breakfast: Revival Coffee
Revival Coffee is one place I KNEW I had to stop at while in Austin. They have all pink walls, an adorable courtyard, and a mural that says “This wall intentionally left pink.” I shot there for my photoshoot, and then returned later that morning for breakfast with my boyfriend. I got the “Fruity Pebbles” latte which was matcha, oatmilk, and lavender (the BEST combo). I highly recommend!

Lunch: Poke-Poke
If you want something light to eat while visiting Austin, you have got to try out Poke-Poke while on South Congress! You can eat in, or get a bowl to go. The best part? They also offer wine, beer, and acai bowls too!

Excursion: South Congress
To end our 3 days in Austin, we walked along South Congress! This is one of their original streets that is partially stores that have been around for years, and partially newer retail stores as well. My favorite stores were Feathers Vintage, Parts & Labour, Stag Provisions, Lucy in Disguise with Diamonds, and South Congress Books!
