I know how hard all of you guys work, I figured I would round up 16 Ways to Unwind After Work! This post can work for anyone of any age, shape, or size! I want this to be very gender neutral, so this will be tips for both men and women on how to relax after they’ve had a long week!
I know most people have their own way of de-stressing, so I just wanted to add in some ways I use to de-stress! A few weeks ago I also asked some of my followers how THEY de-stress and techniques they use so I added some of those in here as well. I hope this helps you guys out!
16 Ways to De-Stress After A Long Week
1. Take a Hot Bath/Shower
I know every time I have a really bad day I love to hop in the shower and just de-stress. It’s a way for me to calm down and unwind before I eat some dinner! A great way to make your shower even more relaxing is to add eucalyptus leaves above your shower head! It’ll add essential calming oils into the steam and can even help heal your body.
2. Write Down Your Thoughts in a Journal
I used to journal much more when I was younger surprisingly enough. Journaling is very therapeutic especially if you don’t have anyone to talk to! It’s a way to work out your feelings and emotions in a healthy way. This can also aid you in avoiding conflict and from saying anything you might regret to the ones you love/respect!
3. Go to the Gym/Go Running
Now I’m not telling you that you HAVE to start running or going for the gym. However, for anyone who lives, or has lived, an active lifestyle, this can be so helpful! As Elle Woods says in legally blonde, “Endorphins make people happy!” Whenever I go running, even if I’m really mad, I automatically feel so much better!
4. Bake Your Favorite Cookies
A great way I de-stress is by baking cookies or by cooking! I love taking my mind off of all my worries and just throwing myself into making food. It makes me feel good inside and then I also have some yummy treats! I have a DELISH Pecan Shortbread Meltaways recipe that you can find (here).
5. Treat yo’ Self to Some Retail Therapy
Now, I’m not saying go crazy, but when I’m having a bad day Target almost ALWAYS helps! I’m sure you have a favorite place to shop. If you’re not feeling up to snuff, head over and treat yo’ self to something new to wear or for your home! Target is great because I can look for cute clearance items and also grab a Starbucks drink.
6. Blast Your Music & Sing Your Fav Song
If I’ve had a stressful day at work, I throw on my favorite playlist on the way home! I sing at the TOP of my lungs and belt lyrics out like it’s my job. Don’t put on the depressing playlist you want to, put on the happy music you listen to when you’ve had a good day! You’ll instantly start to feel better and it can turn around your whole day.
7. Put on a Face/Hair Mask
Okay no face masks can’t solve everything, but they make me feel SO REFRESHED! Sometimes it’s just the boost I need to make myself feel better. I sometimes do them at night after a long day and then take a hot shower. The combo makes my skin feel better and the hot water lets me mull everything over!
8. Go On a Walk to Clear Your Head
Now I used to think walking without a purpose was kind of pointless. After taking Online Fitness Walking this past semester (yes, it’s a real class), I realized how awesome walking is. We were told to do a brisk walk and I found that walking faster makes you feel more energized afterwards! It also helps you think everything over which is so helpful.
9. Watch your Favorite Movie
Orrrrrrrr watch the entire Harry Potter series like I do. I am a lover of romantic comedies and they almost ALWAYS put me in a better mood. Even if you don’t like happy-go-lucky movies like I do, movies can take your mind off of what stresses you out! They are so necessary.
10. Go Out to Dinner With Your Friends
Now for me, when I’m sad I just want to be alone. That being said, every time I’m sad and I go hang out with my friends I feel so much better! They can tell you about something funny that happened to them or even just support you when you’re stressed. It’s fun to unwind at brunch after a long work week!
11. Read Your Favorite Book
I have loved reading since I was a kid. It allowed me to escape whatever I was frustrated about and let me dream of new worlds! As an adult, I prefer reading biographies of successful women mostly, but that in itself is inspiring! Reading a book you love allows you to sit down and relax which is an amazing way to de-stress.
12. Create a Fun DIY
I haven’t has as much time to make DIY projects this past year, but it’s such a fun and unique way to de-stress! If creating things is a way that helps you relax, I highly suggest this method of de-stressing. Looking for a DIY to start? I have an Easy DIY Fashion Clutch Tutorial (pictured below) that only requires a TINY bit of hand sewing! Check it out (here).
13. Play With Your Pet
Every time I would come back from a stressful month at school, my dog would be right there to greet me with a toy. Animals offer emotional support and can show you how being loved unconditionally can feel! Take your pooch to the dog park, play around with your cat, or feed your lizard. Any of these can help you realize that life is fun!
14. Organize/Clean Your Space
I know when I’m stressed if my space is messy I get even more stressed out. Literally just hanging up my clothes or quickly cleaning my bathroom can make me feel better! It takes my mind off of the issue and makes me feel like I’m doing something productive with myself. I also LOVE to organize so this just helps even more.
15. Play Your Fav Video Game
Whether a male or female, people LOVE to play video games. I know my favorite social media posts are ones where people talk about the insane things their Sims have done. If you’re stressed out, take it out on a game! Whether it’s an action game, or an alternate reality one, it can help you to escape.
16. Grab A Cup of Your Fav Coffee
Coffee is my favorite thing in the world. I seriously have no type and can drink it anytime! Whether your hot drink of choice is coffee or tea, get out of the house, head to your fav coffee shop, and grab your usual. Just the smell of coffee helps me calm own and the white noise of the shop can help you think out why you’re stressed out.
